Health technology assessment (HTA) should benefit both patients and healthcare payers by allowing faster, evidence-based access to innovative technologies that are clinically sound and cost-effective, while helping to eliminate treatments and practices that are shown to deliver limited health benefits or financial value. However, with no agreed standard definition and multiple national approaches, how can Europe’s citizens ensure it becomes a more effective mechanism to meet their needs?
